Reflection

In my group, containing four members we continually discuss the project, where we are heading and plan the next step to take. This is working really well as we all listen to each others ideas and thoughts even though occasionally they are different. Therefore i think we are in the overlapping of the storming and norming stage.                                            Over the last two weeks we have been drawing using images inspired by Belle Vue and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. By brainstorming ideas as a team we started drawing lined drawings inspired by the structure of the rides found at the Pleasure Beach and incorporating contortionist images inspired by the Palace Of Strange Girls picture found at Belle Vue archive. As a group we then researched into illusion and how this might look on print so using our images we wanted to use print to create a 3D effect. This has been a very enjoyable part of the project as each member of the team helped push the development of the project until each of of us were pleased.

We then as a group chose our motifs to be made up on a screen, there was some disagreements at this stage as people had different ideas of what would work better but in the end we all decided and the screens have worked really well as initial ideas.

Getting into the print room to sample our print was the most exciting part, we started off with one of our motifs, a line drawing of a lions head inspired from Belle Vue. As a team we repeated the print in red down a cream satin fabric we then off set the image slightly to print the same image in blue over the top. We were all so pleased with the outcome as it created the 3D illusion effect that we are striving for. However we learned that if the layering of the images was too close the pigment dye mixed and turned purple and for aesthetic reasons, and for the print to have a bigger and bolder impact we made the decision that each motif need to have a smaller distance between them. Therefore starting to sample our ideas worked really well as we now understand how to create the print that we are imagining.

Furthermore we as a group started to discus what we wanted the print to be shown on and all agreed to start designing clothes with the muse in mind to be very pale, even albino, tall and slim to give the look of being different and slightly strange linking in to the initial image of ‘The Palace Of Strange Girls.                                                I feel our project has the bases of a very strong idea and each team member is enthused by the development, hopefully leading to a successful outcome.
